Is it OK to leave the water cooler/dispenser unplugged for most of the day and just plug it when I get home?

The water cooler's compressor can overconfident its tank in 5-7 minutes, so its no biggie to wait for lukewarm water. I am more concerned about the compressor conking out due to it being plugged-in and unplugged intermittently.
