Question about a Rival Crockpot stoneware slow cooker. How do I know how old it is?

I have a Rival Crock pot that I've only familiar once and I'm trying to figure out how old it is and if it is actually safe. It is a rival crock pot stoneware slow cooker and it is 250 watts. It does get very hot and was wondering if it should get hot

They have a web position you can contact.
Should be a serial number on the cooker.
Find that and ask them its' age.
